Fascinating article particularly the part about the mutation of education. My sense is these mutations are more like layers and the mix of layers is changing.

Early state education is more artisanal vs. primary/secondary education tends to be more industrial.

It's en vogue to suggest that changes to become more personalized but my sense is that things like Math Drills and homework are necessary for mastery.

Perhaps the mix will change but we can not and should not eliminate some of the 'industrial' aspects

Absolutely love your point — and I completely agree that some fundamentals must be practiced to achieve true mastery.

However, I wouldn’t frame it as an “industrial” vs. “personalized” debate. It’s more about how we practice.

Yes, students need to drill math formulas, chemistry equations, grammar rules — but the practice itself can be dynamic, playful, and personalized thanks to AI and modern pedagogies.

The core goal remains: deep understanding through repetition and application.

What’s evolving is the experience around it — moving from cold, uniform drills to engaging, adaptive challenges tailored to each learner’s pace and style.

Yes! great framing. Additionally, AI unlocks an ability to train in complex domains without simple correct/wrong answers with AI acting as a coach.

I'm betting we can train people adaptively on fluid skills like critical thinking and building a company around that belief - https://www.socratify.com/

In you knowledge about history of education there are blindspots

Asia (china, india, japan, etc..) had a very strong education systems and there is a rich history there

You’re absolutely right — and I love that you brought this up! 🙌

Asia has an incredibly rich and powerful educational legacy — from the Confucian roots in China, to India’s ancient Gurukuls and today’s IITs, to Japan’s culture of rigorous learning and collective excellence.

Today, these systems are pivoting massively:

They are moving from “rote learning and exam-based models” ➔ toward creativity, innovation, and future skills (AI, entrepreneurship, critical thinking).

It’s fascinating to see countries like China, India, and Japan lead the charge into a new era, blending their deep cultural respect for education with a bold embrace of the future.

Thanks again for pushing the conversation deeper — that’s exactly how we grow together. 🚀🌏

“Learning will once again become what it should never have ceased to be: an exploration guided by curiosity rather than a forced march toward standardized objectives.”

Sounds incredibly naive given how modern kids are glued to their devices. Learning without school will simply disappear, instead leaving just a handful of dedicated pupils.

You’re absolutely right to flag the risk — but the answer isn’t more control, it’s smarter guidance.

The truth is: humans, especially kids, thrive when they feel free, not when they actually are free.

➡️ We must fix the system, not by eliminating structure, but by hiding it elegantly.

There is a critical volume of knowledge that must be acquired by a certain age — that’s non-negotiable if we want to raise capable citizens.

But the path, the timing, the format? That’s where we unleash creativity and let curiosity lead.

Think of it like game design:

🎯 Clear objectives + 🛤️ Invisible rails + 🎮 Freedom of play = Maximum engagement.

while i'm extremely 'bullish' on the future of education, the father-in-me faces so many questions -daily- re: how to handle young kids and at which distance put AI/ tech in general.

which is exactly why i can't recommend enough https://newkid.ai ✌️
